Paul D. Faris | President and Legal Counsel
Paul D. Faris As the oldest in a family of seven children, Paul was homeschooled on his family's farm in St. Thomas, Ontario. Paul went on to study history and political science at the University of Western Ontario before graduating from their law school in 2001. He was called to the bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario) in 2002. Following graduation, Paul articled with Lerners LLP and was hired back thereafter to work in their Dispute Resolution Group, Business Law Group, and Commercial Litigation.

In 2003 Paul joined Home School Legal Defence Association of Canada as legal counsel and became executive director in 2005. Since joining HSLDA, Paul has been serving and defending homeschooling families across Canada in the courtroom, in Parliament and provincial legislatures, and in the media. Paul lives in St.Thomas, Ontario with his wife, Suzanne, also a homeschool graduate, and their three daughters Abigail, Isabella, and Evangeline.

Bonnie Getty

Bonnie Getty graduated from Fanshawe College in 1989, after which she worked full-time and later part-time in her field of study. She married her husband, John, in 1990. Bonnie chose to stay at home after their second child was born, and when their oldest turned five, the couple decided to homeschool. 

They were actively involved in a London homeschool group from 1998 to 2013, where Bonnie served as a Coordinator for three years and then Program Director for seven years. Bonnie and John have three children who have graduated from homeschooling: Nathaniel, Leanna, and Katherine.  


Kerry Mullenix | Member Services
Kerry Mullinex Kerry is married to husband Jim and is mom to their two sons Andrew and Matthew. She worked in the banking field and public service for many years before starting her own home daycare. For over 20 years she enjoyed the numerous hours she spent loving on and teaching the young children who were placed in her care, making an impact on their young lives.

Kerry homeschooled her oldest son for three years and was actively involved in a London homeschool group during that time. She joined the HSLDA team in January 2011. Kerry has recently taken over the reins of our Member Services department and is the voice you are most likely to hear when calling the office. She responds to members' questions and provides whatever information is available to help make your homeschooling journey as successful as possible. 
Laurie Pruim | Member Services Assistant

Laurie and her husband Hank have homeschooled their three children from kindergarten through high school graduation. The last one graduated in spring 2012, and after homeschooling for 18 years, Laurie is returning to office administration.

While homeschooling  she held positions such as gym coordinator, group coordinator, and communications person in her local support group. Her involvement with Ontario Christian Home Educators' Connection (OCHEC) has included area representative, board member, and sound/recording team member. Laurie is thrilled to join the HSLDA team and continue to assist families in their home education journey.

Josianne-Manon Fortin | Administrative assistant - French Member Services

Josianne-Manon has been working for HSLDA for three years, assisting with the provision of services in French. She and her husband Laval served on the ACPEQ Board of Directors for a number of years, and were involved as leaders within their local homeschool group for 15 years. Their four children are 16 to 22 years old and three have gone on to postsecondary after homeschooling through high school. With several of her children being dyslexic, Jo-Manon gained a lot experience through specialized training in order to better assist her children with these challenges. She is certified by the Canadian Dyslexia Centre and now provides assistance to parents of dyslexic children. Jo-Manon’s very busy household is in Trois-Rivières, QC.


Shayne Wyler | Homeschooling Solutions Co-ordinator

Shayne has a heart to bring order wherever direction is needed by helping leaders, families and organizations realize their purpose in all they do, everywhere they are. In this, Shayne has been given a variety of opportunities to grow as a leader, speaker and strategic developer in leadership and organizational integrity. Shayne, along with his wife, Shelley, founded Seven, a leadership think tank, focused on shaping the culture to serve.

Shayne, his wife, and seven children, live in London, ON.
